In some regions in India, the bride sits at the entrance and her mother gives her a glass of milk before the departure. As she makes her way out of the house, she throws handful of rice behind her without looking back which is collected and kept in a kalash. In some cultures it is also considered as repayment of her debt towards her parents.
In some North Indian states, Mama- mother’s brother lifts the bride and takes her till the doli or transport that would take the bride to her husband’s home.
