The Bihari wedding commences with Satyanarayan Puja conducted at the Groom’s home. All those who participate in this puja are required to fast for the day. The engagement ceremony in Bihar is called Cheka wherein the couple exchanges rings and the groom’s family presents the bride’s with gifts and sweets. The Bride’s brother makes a visit to the Groom’s house for Tilak ceremony just before the wedding. It symbolizes the acceptance of the holy union by Bride’s family. On this occasion Groom’s family sends Maangtika, Nose ring, toe ring and some gifts for the bride along with turmeric which is ground by the Groom’s mother. The brother of the bride also showers the family of the groom with gifts and ornaments along with his wedding attire and turmeric paste.

The final pre-wedding ceremony of Imlighutai involves Groom’s maternal uncle making him hold a betel nut between his teeth which is eaten by his mother signifying that she has taken all bad omens that were to fall on her son on herself.
